N1  - This compendium includes the 22 issues and supplements contained in the first four volumes of 'The Family Planning Manager' continuing education series. The introduction of the volume addresses the critical management challenges raised by the Progrramme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development. Section 1 of the manual is devoted to the broad area of program management and addresses the specific topics of learning to think strategically, developing plans and proposals for new initiatives,  using continous quality improvement (CQI) to strengthen family planning (FP) programs, using maps to improveservices,  dedcentralizing health and FP servies, managing integrated services, and working with Boards of Directors. Section 2 covers clinic management issues such as reducing client waiting time, using service data,  analysing costs for management decisions, charging fees for FP services, improving contraceptive supply management, reducing discontinuation in FP progrgams, and improving supervision. The third section presents working solutions from the field,  sample charts and forms, 'how to' guidelines, checklists, reviewers' comments and references. Case scenarios based on real situations present fictitious management scenarios designed for use in staff development and training. The compendium contains special supplements such as the 'Manager's Toolbox for QCI, a 'Guide to Graphic Data and Taking Action,' the 'Pocket Guided for Servicee Improvement,' and  the 'Pocket Guidede for improving Board Performence.'
